2018 looks set to be the year of the small guy

With 2017 coming to a close, and 2018 just around the corner, we look at what the future holds.

When stepping back and looking forward at what 2018 will be it is most certainly looking like the small guy, the fighter, the underdog, the ones with only a small voice etc seem to be the ones who will benefit the most in 2018.

The political parties which form the coalition government all seek a Criminal Cases Review Commission, to over look any possible miscarriages of justice, this needs to ultimately be separate to both the Justice and Police departments to be successful.

Key things for 2018 which I can see going forward.

Pike River potential mine drift entry,
CTV Building victims families look set to make some ground,
CCRC should be created to prevent miscarriages of justice,
Scott Watson's Royal Prerogative of Mercy Application should be heard,
Minimum wage increase to $16.50 per hour,
A government willing to listen to everyday New Zealanders, not just big businesses,

We have seen signs of many of these since the change of Government, but I predict an increase of pace come the new year, the new government are going to want to stamp their mark on 2018 and ascertain their position.

Key sectors such as Education, Health, Police, Justice look set to take a positive shakeup, some will argue that not enough of a shake up and I will tend to agree however it is a step in the right direction.

Rural New Zealand, has signs the Government is re-investing in these locations which have been ignored or forgotten about for some time, this should have a positive impact on small town New Zealand, I even see a positive change for the Farming industry in 2018 although many were predicting that a change of government will see Farmers struggle more.

New Zealand still needs to change its focus from an import heavy economy and turn it into an export heavy economy. This would help all export markets, including Farming, Forestry, Fishing, Mining and more. We also need to focus of exporting quality products such as Timber instead of whole logs.

2018 will be a great test for the New Government, and even the Opposition, sit back grab the popcorn, its going to be a cracker year.
